UC Invest in your employees, not corporations!
Recently, the University of California announced its newest investment in Blackstone Inc. The CIO Office's recent $4.5 billion investment in Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT) cements the University's position as a major driver of the housing affordability crisis. In January, labor unions and community members called on UC to divest from all of its Blackstone holdings. Blackstone Tenants traveled to a Regents meeting to give their personal account of what it is like to live in a Blackstone property. They spoke of eight- to nine-percent rent increases, and sustained maintenance neglect, including cockroach infestations and poorly done repairs — experiences Blackstone executives attending the meeting dismissed as “misinformation.”
We are asking you to join us in continuing to call on UC and DEMAND UC pay ALL UC workers a $25/hr minimum wage. We also demand UC DIVEST from Blackstone and instead work to provide affordable housing NOW!
When you send this email, we will also include you in a petition with other supporters that are demanding UC divest from Blackstone.
